📖 Book Review: It Started With I Do by Amaka Azie

Have you ever felt neglected, disappointed, or made to feel like you’re not enough — to the point where you start questioning your choice of a life partner? That moment when you doubt everything, including the very existence of your relationship? This is where we meet  Udoka and Iriah . Two people trying to navigate love, marriage, expectations, and identity. Udoka  is a man struggling with balance. A perfectionist and perhaps even an extremist — driven by the desire to measure up, especially because of the family he married into. In his pursuit of success and validation, he overlooks the one thing his wife desperately needs: attention, affection, and emotional presence. Small gestures, big gestures — they all matter. That’s a lesson we can all take home. Iriah , on the other hand, wants what many women long for — to be seen, cherished, respected. But even she must confront her own struggles with trust and dependence. I loved the way Amaka weaved in supporting characters like...

Getting Rid of Matthew — A Tangled Web of Love, Lies, and Liberation

We all long for something… until it becomes ours. What happens when the other woman finally gets the man — and realizes she doesn't want him? “Getting Rid of Matthew” by Jane Fallon  is witty, messy, and deliciously entertaining. Helen thought she wanted it all — Matthew included. But when he leaves his wife and shows up on her doorstep, reality hits hard. I found myself rolling through the drama, the sneaky plots, web of lies, messy unraveling of her life kept me flipping pages and the hilarious chaos that ensues when Helen tries to untangle herself from the very affair she once craved. Fallon writes characters who are flawed, funny, and painfully human. While Helen's decisions might have you yelling at the pages, it’s her growth and awakening that give the story its punch. Helen is flawed, foolish, and at times, frustrating — but her growth is real. I especially disliked the way Matthew, once absent and emotionally unavailable, plays the victim while Helen bears the brunt of t...

'Honey and Spice: She Said No Feelings... Then Caught Them Anyway"

Honey & Spice by Bolu Babalola  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) 📚 Romance | Friendship | Drama | Nigerian Realness Honey & Spice is not just a romance, it's a bold, smart, and deeply relatable journey through friendship, heartbreak, and what it means to find (and fight for) your voice as a young Black woman. Let’s talk about Kiki Banjo (aka Killer Keeks). Nigerian to the core, full of hot takes, sass, and never one to be caught slipping. She's the girl who dishes the gossip, not the one getting caught up in it — unless, of course, she's forced to because life. And drama. And Zach. 🙄 Zach, the charming leech who just won’t back down. He’s disarming, with a smile that says “trouble,” and of course, he ends up being part of  the people Kiki regrets meeting . Then there’s Malaika — unexpectedly paired with Keeks for a project that might just turn into more than work. It’s in these messy, tender moments that we see lines blurring. This book hits HARD when it explores how we sometimes let...

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Genre: Historical Fiction | Rating: ★★★★★
“We’ve all done crazy things for the ones we love.” When I picked up The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I thought I was in for a glamorous, Hollywood-centered drama. And while it delivers on the glitz and scandal, this novel is something far deeper — a story about identity, love, sacrifice, and the power of choosing your own truth. Told in an interview-style narrative, we follow Evelyn Hugo, an aging film icon finally ready to reveal the real story behind her legendary life — and, yes, all seven of her husbands. But as the pages turn, you begin to understand that the husbands were never the full story. Her motivations, her silence, and the decisions she made were all in service of something/someone — more personal. It’s a story about how far we’ll go to protect the people we love. And that’s what makes Evelyn unforgettable. Behind the stunning gowns and scandalous headlines is a woman who dared to live, love, and lose — on her own terms. ...
