We all long for something… until it becomes ours. What happens when the other woman finally gets the man — and realizes she doesn't want him?
“Getting Rid of Matthew” by Jane Fallon is witty, messy, and deliciously entertaining. Helen thought she wanted it all — Matthew included. But when he leaves his wife and shows up on her doorstep, reality hits hard.
I found myself rolling through the drama, the sneaky plots, web of lies, messy unraveling of her life kept me flipping pages and the hilarious chaos that ensues when Helen tries to untangle herself from the very affair she once craved. Fallon writes characters who are flawed, funny, and painfully human.
While Helen's decisions might have you yelling at the pages, it’s her growth and awakening that give the story its punch. Helen is flawed, foolish, and at times, frustrating — but her growth is real. I especially disliked the way Matthew, once absent and emotionally unavailable, plays the victim while Helen bears the brunt of the emotional load.
I loved that the story didn’t shy away from complexity. The humor, the awkward situations, the emotional vulnerability — all felt very human.
This was messy in the best way — a reminder that desire can deceive, and sometimes, getting what you want just exposes what you truly need.
๐ “Getting Rid of Matthew” isn’t just about leaving a man. It’s about finding yourself — even if it means starting over from scratch.
๐ฌ “Be careful what you wish for. You just might get him — and regret it.”
